Inequality in America

Todays music; Wishing for a hero by Polo G
1987; Man in the mirror by Michal Jackson
1900s; Oh freedom by Ed Lewis
Wishing for a hero by polo g is one of my favorite songs right now. He released the song may 2020 weeks before the rioting and protesting for black lives began. The chorus says “That's just the way it is, some things will never change” As if he has given up hope in the world. The whole song speaks about how the world has never been fair to an african american male like him.Just like in Dr. Kendi’s article, he says “When white men murder man like me, they call it self defense. And they are believed. When men like me defend ourselves against violent white men, they call us the aggressors. And they are believed.” “It's all a set up” Polo G says. In the video I made it shows the current events for black lives that's going on right now in america. His song fits perfectly for it. I hope you take the time to watch it.
One of the poems i have watch during these last 6 weeks of learning was called gay is the new black. At first i was skeptical about the title. Nothing is equal to the injustice black people have to deal with during our day to day life. But after watching the video I was left speechless. I never understood why people treated the LGBTQ community differently from straight people. ESPECIALLY seeing that black people are being prejudice towards gays.We want equality because its not fair to discriminate against someone because of the color of their skin right… So why do we discriminate against someone because of the way that they love?? It never sat right with me. That's why I chose man in the mirror. It all starts with us now. We have the power to make this world a better place and I believe we can do it. WE GET IT. WE’RE WOKE. discrimination is literally the most absurd thing humans can do. We’re different.. What's so wrong with diversity?
Oh freedom by Ed Lewis is a post civil war african american freedom song. Associated with the African American Civil Rights Movement soon after the end of slavery. The song has more than just one meaning. Not only does it refer to freedom in the world to come after death, as many slave spirituals do, but it celebrates their new freedom in the here and now. It was a song commonly sung during the civil rights movement during the 50s and 60s. It is honestly SO sad that we are still having to march for our equality today. Here's a random fact for you, In history books, photographs from the civil rights movement are shown in gray when the real photos are definitely in color. Why? Is it because they want us to think these events happened a long time ago? IT'S STILL HAPPENING TODAY! Its like the world wants us to forget about slavery and the racial injustice black lives have experienced even though it never stopped. “Never forget 9/11,’’ they said, “but lets put slavery behind us.’’
All in all, I still have hope in this world today. Like Amanda Gorman said in The miracle of morning, we must take our struggles and let them build us not tear us down. We must hope for a better future. It's all in our hands. Oh freedom, We’re wishing for a hero. And it all starts with the man in the mirror.
