My Hope & Inspiration Playlist
These songs are a part of my happy playlist because they have given me hope and also inspiration to stay positive and just push through. The first song of the playlist is “A Change is Gonna Come,” by Sam Cookie. This song because it really represents how things are going to change eventually. Also it sorta encourages someone to go out and make a change. The lyrics strongly state that hope will come, but it is just going to take some time.
“It's been a long
A long time comin', but I know
A change gon' come
Oh, yes it will”
Sam Cooke
Another song is “Glory,” by John Legend and Common. The song was made for the movie Selma. Selma as in Selma, Alabama is the place where many important events in history happened. For example Bloody Sunday in 1965. Another one is the Selma to Montgomery March(s) in 1965. This is a very strong and powerful song because it does not only talk about hope but it talks about all the hardships and protesting we have been through.
“The movement is a rhythm to us
Freedom is like religion to us
Justice is juxtapositionin' us
Justice for all just ain't specific enough”
Common
“We’re A Winner” by The Impressions is another good song. It is a victory song for when we do get past the virus and a change happens with all the protesting we have done. Right now I don’t think we deserve a victory song at this moment but I feel like that time will come sooner or later.
“We're all movin' on up
(Movin' on up)
Lord have mercy, we're movin' on up
(Movin' on up)”
The Impressions
“Apparently,” by J. Cole is such a good song. Even though it sounds upbeat the lyrics have a very deep and meaningful presence in the song. The song mostly says how you should keep your head up and to keep fighting for justice.
“I keep my head high
I got my wings to carry me
I don't know freedom
I want my dreams to rescue me
I keep my faith strong
I ask the Lord to follow me”
J. Cole
"Land of the Free" by Joey Bada$$ is kinda different from the others but at the same time it is not. Even though the song doesn’t really talk about hope it gives me inspiration. It makes me think about some things more in dept than I would usual do. It also makes me think if I should improve myself somehow. Or if I could do something more than what I am doing right now.
“The first step into change is to take notice
Realize the real games that they tried to show us
300 plus years of them cold shoulders
Yet 300 million of us still got no focus”
Joey Bada$$
“Stand Tall” by Childish Gambino is another inspiring and hopeful song. When I am feeling down it just reminds me to take a deep breath, and keep standing tall. No matter how bad the news.
“Keep all your dreams, keep standing tall
If you are strong, you cannot fall
There is a voice inside us all
So smile when you can, when you can”
Childish Gambino
